Appreciating Extraordinary Women Healers

From Donna and David

Appreciating Extraordinary Women Healers

I (Donna) have had wonderful doctors, both male and female. And I cherish the ones who have kept their feminine spirit flourishing through the intellectual and competitive rigors of medical school.

I have found these doctors have a natural compassion that brings out the best in their patients, including the mother-lion spirit necessary to overcome some illnesses. Compassion also leads to curiosity, to look beyond conventional explanations to find deeper causes and better treatments.

EEM is deeply indebted to ancient Chinese Medicine. When you think of that tradition, you get images of ancient male Sages and Physicians. I’ve wondered about the role of women in the development of Chinese medicine, so David and I recently looked more deeply into the history. Here were some of our findings:

  • In ancient China, as in many early societies men, with their larger size, were typically the family’s provider and protector, while women were traditionally the care-taker. They had primary responsibility for the health and wellness of their families.
  • They prepared meals, cared for the sick, and used herbs and other natural remedies to treat various ailments. This intimate knowledge of herbs and their medicinal properties was crucial to the development of Chinese medicine.
  • Women also gathered communally, sharing their experiences and insights, and passing them on to the next generation.
  • Many women were recognized as healers and teachers beyond their families. For instance, records show that women were practicing acupuncture as early as the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD). They also practiced and taught tai chi and qigong.
  • Some of these female doctors became famous even during their own lifetimes. For example, Tan Yunxian was well known during the Ming Dynasty. Trotula of Salerno was considered one of the world's first gynecologists. Both made significant and lasting contributions to the field of medicine.

In summary, women played a significant role in the development of ancient Chinese medicine. Their contributions are, however, often overlooked due to the patriarchal nature of ancient Chinese society. The full extent of their influence may never be fully known.

So we are taking a moment to tune ourselves into this history and appreciating these known and unknown souls who had a role in developing what energy medicine is today.

Love,
Donna and David

Eden Energy Medicine in Action

How Donna’s Wisdom Sparked An Incredible Recovery

Gopita Katharine Manning

When she first sensed the prickly feeling in her throat, Gopita Katharine Manning thought it was just another sore throat. Unfortunately, she was wrong. Over the next few weeks, Gopita endured mysterious fevers of over 100 degrees and coughing fits that were so intense, she thought she might “break a rib!”

Gopita tried everything to heal, including Western medicine, but nothing worked. Feeling hopeless, she talked to Donna, who gently guided her to refer to a chapter in Energy Medicine for Women. Overnight, every one of her symptoms disappeared!

When Donna Kissed the Blarney Stone!

Donna has never been afraid to dance to the beat of her own drum and she lived as an “empowered, independent woman” long before most people knew what that meant! When she was just 17, guided by her intuition and her lifelong fascination with all things Irish, Donna made the decision to reconnect with her roots.

Supporting Health and Happiness Since 1977

Donna Eden started teaching Energy Medicine classes in the late 1970s. Since then, her work has touched millions of people across the globe, introducing them to the healing and restorative power of their body’s own energies.

Her approach hit a cultural nerve, a hunger in people to take charge of their own health and healing through simple techniques that could be easily applied. Donna’s husband, David Feinstein, began to collaborate with her in bringing Energy Medicine into the world. Today, her daughters, Titanya Dahlin and Dondi Dahlin, and their partners all share in the mission.

This small family team is at the hub of a large and growing movement that has become one of the bright lights in holistic health.
