How Donna’s Dream is Coming True

The theme of this month’s e-letter – “energy medicine in medical settings to encourage healing and recovery” – comes very close to home for us. At our last Energy Fest gathering, in Cleveland, as many of you know, Donna was wobbling her way onto the stage on the final day when cooler heads whisked her to the emergency room at the Cleveland Clinic hospital. 

The Cleveland Clinic is widely considered the best cardiac hospital in the world. Donna was not getting enough blood to her body and needed immediate open heart surgery. This was the start of an adventure in the interface of the best of conventional medicine and the healing power of energy medicine. The first synchronicity was to have a cardiac emergency in the city with the best heart hospital in the world. 

The second synchronicity was that two of the emergency room nurses recognized Donna because she had presented Grand Rounds at this very same hospital a few years earlier. That had been a great experience.

However, a problem with being the world’s best cardiac hospital is that people come there from all over the world, and an operating room and cardiac surgeon were not available. Meanwhile, Donna’s condition seemed to be growing worse by the hour. 

The medical staff was wonderful, but as day turned to night and as one day turned to the next, they had to keep informing us that the surgery was having to wait its turn. 

While the spirit of the team was very positive, Donna was starting to look like death warmed over. Finally, after several days, a surgeon was assigned and the surgery scheduled. This was when the third synchronicity occurred. Janel Hubbard, one of our most cherished EEM faculty members, called to let us know that her son, who is a physician at the hospital, told her that the surgeon who was assigned is considered one of the best in the world.  And he was!

Just prior to the operation, knowing that the staff had been concerned that they were going to lose Donna before she got to the operating table, he looked Donna in the eye and said in the most comforting way possible, “I don’t kill people!” She went under the anesthesia with that assurance ringing in her ears.

The surgery was a great success. Only afterwards did one of the other physicians tell the family, “I was afraid we were going to lose her before she ever got to the operating room.” But during that time, Titanya and David were providing energy medicine treatments many times a day and Dondi was zealously serving as Donna’s patient advocate. Was that the difference between Donna surviving and not surviving? We’ll never know. But it happened.

After the operation, we thanked the surgeon for saving Donna’s life. The surgery was not without some unusual challenges. However, the surgeon, Dr. Aaron Weiss, always redirected our appreciative compliments toward his team. But now we are getting him back. 

In our forthcoming book on energy psychology, after referring to the near tragic events, we say: “Dr. Weiss would never take a compliment from us. He would always deflect our appreciation to his team of anesthesiologists, other physicians, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, orderlies, and on and on. But now we have him cornered. Thank you, Aaron Weiss!”
