Force of Nature

Bringing Energy Medicine to Underprivileged & Marginalized Communities

We were thrilled and honored when we learned that one of our Eden Energy Medicine Certified Practitioners has achieved extraordinary headway in introducing energy medicine to marginalized and underprivileged communities. Described as a “force of nature”, Eden Eden Energy Medicine Certified Practitioner Shannon Yarbrough is devoted to bringing healing and self-care to those who need it most. Here’s Shannon's inspiring story, in her own words.

On a Mission

I first encountered Eden Energy Medicine in 2017 while looking for CEUs for my license in Occupational Therapy. I began by reading up on it, studying it, and teaching myself techniques. I was lucky to study under Sister Ann Winters at Ursuline College for Introduction to EEM. I was working in the Psych Ward as a Behavioral Health Occupational Therapist for a nonprofit hospital. The hospital was situated in one of Cleveland’s poorest districts and their mission was to serve underprivileged, marginalized communities.

I noticed how the few techniques that I did know of the Daily Energy Routine (DER) helped so many in the Psych Ward and I was determined to learn more to help my community. While working in this setting for 8 years, I was so blessed to have had 4 pregnancies. The challenge of balancing home, health, and work was immense and without a doubt, EEM sustained me.

I no longer work at the nonprofit hospital but have moved on to serve as a Low Vision Occupational Therapist. I have opened my small practice but continue to serve my community.

Ghetto Therapy

In 2019, I began attending, teaching, and providing free or discounted sessions to a local community outreach program called Ghetto Therapy. I use EEM techniques and Occupational Therapy interventions to help members of the Central Midtown community with wellness. Many members of this community program are open to learning and applying EEM techniques to their daily lives to help them manage societal injustices, poverty, depression, and anger.

One of the most well received lectures and exercises with conversation was that of calming the Triple Warmer. I noticed with my work in the Psych Ward and being an African American Occupational Therapist that many of my clients who are Persons of Color have imbalances in their Triple Warmer, and Gallbladder and that they love doing minutes of Figure 8s.

Connecting to More Than Pain

Through Ghetto Therapy, I have been able to share my knowledge with so many in need, and have seen a vast improvement in the health of my small community… there is a deep sense of empowerment and connection to more than pain.

Many of my clients have expressed to me that they don’t see themselves included in much of the wellness movement because those leading it and teaching it don’t look like them.

I believe bringing EEM to impoverished and less fortunate communities will be immensely beneficial to everyone. I want to help those in need to see that they too can heal and connect with their bodies using powerful techniques with intention. I am determined to become a teacher and spread the benefits of energy medicine to all.
