The Dream Team of Healing: An Interview with Dr. Sara Allen

Eden Method: Your workshop at the EEM Practitioner's Conference this month brings together the Xi Cleft Points and Influential Points, which are 2 powerful systems working in synergy. What first inspired you to explore how these systems work together?

Dr. Sara Allen: Each of our 365 acupoints is like its own little universe! I absolutely love diving into the poetry written about the energy of these points. When you study what certain points contribute to the body, it becomes this magical experience all on its own.

But here's where it gets really exciting: when you combine specific acupoints and let them work synergistically together, it's like the 1992 Olympic basketball Dream Team…you're assembling the best of the best and letting them create excellence together!

The Xi Clefts operate at the level of our spirit, where our deepest and purest qi flows. They constantly interact with our spiritual quest, our purpose, and our potential. The Influential Points, on the other hand, are an energy of persuasion. They guide us toward the very best and strongest parts of ourselves. When activated, these points literally influence us and propel us into a state of strength and power.

I call these groupings "constellations." Joining super systems together and understanding how they'll support and feed the tissues… that's always a fascinating inquiry!

EM: You've been Donna's student since 1998 -- that's an incredible 27 years! How has your understanding of these point systems evolved over nearly 30 years of practice?

Dr. Sara Allen: Wow, that IS a long time! I guess I've become a better energy medicine "chef" these days. I'll throw in a little of this and some of that.

I had a 50-year-old woman come to me with a stubborn skin condition on her face that just wouldn't clear. Her history revealed she'd battled cancer in her 20s with incredibly intense chemotherapy treatments.

I started doing a Xi Cleft treatment, mostly following the standard protocol. Suddenly, she became very sick mid-session. She told me she could actually taste the chemo in her mouth -- that awful metallic "mouthful of pennies" sensation she'd experienced 25 years earlier during her IV treatments. She was extremely distressed.

I immediately held the Influential Point LV 13 -- one of its many names is the "Gate of Hell." When we get stuck in something unpleasant and can't move forward or backward, that's the perfect application for LV 13.

Something inside me knew that having chemo still circulating in her body enough to make her sick 25 years later meant that gate was stuck. Her liver hadn't been able to completely process it out. That chemo was still influencing her wellbeing. Using LV 13 mid-session influenced the direction of that lingering toxicity OUT of her body.

I finished the Xi Cleft treatment, and voilà…no more metallic taste!

The study of what points can do, how they do it, why they do it -- that's what makes us really good chefs. Knowing the when, what, where, and how to use one point in conjunction with another is what this class is all about. Learning the art of mixing and matching skills you already know.

EM: You’ve talked about how Xi Cleft Points gather during "Liver Time." What's the significance of this timing, and how can people work with it?

Dr. Sara Allen: "Liver Time" describes a 2-hour window in the middle of the night, specifically between 1am and 3am. This is when the liver receives the biggest dose of energy it gets in any 24-hour period.

Why the middle of the night? The liver's most important job (and it has over 700 jobs for the body!) is keeping us from poisoning ourselves. The liver detoxifies us while we're in deep sleep. All the "plaque of living" we accumulate during the day, the liver attempts to scrub clean every night while we sleep.

When we do a Xi Cleft treatment (and clearly we're not doing this in the middle of the night!) we're aiding the liver with its most critical detoxification job at any time of day. When we can support the liver this way, it's freed up to do all its other 699 jobs. It's the busiest organ in the body and often needs support. I know of no better way to support a busy liver than with a Xi Cleft treatment.

EM: You've said these combined systems can help with "just about anything that ails you." What kinds of challenges have you found respond particularly well to this approach?

Dr. Sara Allen: The Xi Cleft has always been my go-to for excessively polluted bodies, specifically folks working in toxic environments, people who've had toxic medical exposures, and even those with toxic worldviews. It's wonderful for all of that.

But one of the most surprising "side effects" of regular Xi Cleft treatments is the unexpected clarity people begin experiencing about their life's work. Clients getting regular Xi Cleft treatments to address their toxic load started having what I can only describe as spiritual awakenings or big "aha" moments.

When I began adding an Influential Point, like a spice in a recipe, to Xi Cleft treatments, I noticed something remarkable. Not only were my clients relieved of their burdens through detoxification, but they became powerful in directing themselves toward something they loved. They became deeply interested in meaning. It changed what they did with their days.

They started exercising. They pursued advanced degrees. They began juicing. They found their inner power to be well. One client I specifically remember started a nonprofit delivering fresh produce to the doors of poor single mothers in Chicago's south side.

There was a richness of spirit that became very apparent as people went through regular detoxifying Xi Cleft treatments combined with Influential Points. I realized the Xi Cleft treatments were freeing the liver from constant detoxification burdens. That meant the other "hat" the liver wears could emerge -- the liver hosts the Council of Wise Elders that gathers every night in the body. The Xi Cleft points are also Wisdom Points.

When the liver wasn't doing excessively heavy detoxing every night, its wise voice could finally be heard. Adding an Influential Point was like handing these Wise Council Points a big bullhorn!

This is what brought folks alive: the cleaning and clearing of daily living burdens enabled them to feel joie de vivre running through their bodies. They experienced themselves as clean and whole, freed from the burden of junk circulating in their system.

It's one thing to not feel burdened and it's entirely different to then feel strong and compelled toward something you've longed to accomplish.

The Xi Cleft protocol lightens the body's load, and then the Influential Points direct your body toward something you never thought you had the fortitude or wherewithal to do. This combination (I call it the Yellow Dragon Protocol) makes us lean and focused. I'm so tickled I get to share this process with the community!

EM: What's one surprising or counterintuitive insight about these point systems that you're looking forward to sharing during your workshop?

Dr. Sara Allen: The testing of these protocols can feel tricky and counterintuitive. The testing I teach in this class is "conversational" with the body and I call it Indicator Change Testing, or ICT.

Here's what surprises people: there are inquiries where a "weak" energy test is actually the right answer, and inquiries where a "strong" energy test is the right answer. That can feel really counterintuitive!

There are many layers of interacting with energy that go far beyond what most kinesiology students have experienced. This class introduces IC testing in a whole new way.

EM: How can your workshop help practitioners elevate their skills and improve outcomes for their clients?

Dr. Sara Allen: Learning to see the pattern of the "3rd Thing" in this work is essential. The Xi Clefts and Influentials are like the headliners of the 3rd Thing training I've been offering for several years. It's the best place to start when teaching the etheric aspects of healing.

The combination of these protocols acts as an initiatory practice in studying Yellow Wise Dragon techniques. They're excellent training wheels that enable practitioners to immerse themselves in the joy of making 3rd Things happen in sessions and in clients' lives.

We have the Yin of it -- yes we do. We have the Yang of it -- yes we do. But a yin-yang-only existence is an incomplete picture of wellbeing and the life we're seeking. We have such solid Yin and Yang foundational education, but introducing the why of the points -- the meaning of the points -- that's what will elevate both the practitioner's and client's skills and inner life. Living in the wholeness of our true triune selves produces rich, colorful, meaningful living.

EM: Any parting thoughts about your workshop or energy medicine wisdom you'd like to share?

Dr. Sara Allen: It’s gonna be a really, really, really good time! ❤️
